HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ?

The Driving Test for car drivers is about 40 minutes long. During this time the examiner will : 

1 . Check your eyesight by getting you to read a number plate at

     the required distance - 20.5 metres.

2 . Ask you to show or tell them how to conduct certain vehicle

     safety checks

3 . Direct you to drive around a test route, during which at any 

     given time, ask you to perform two of the following set

     manoeuvres, and optionally the emergency stop. 

 

Set Manoeuvres:   

1 . Reverse parking - either behind a parked vehicle or into a

     parking bay

2 . Reversing round a corner

3 . Turn in the road 

 

 
At the test centre you must take the following items
 
  • Your theory test certificate
  • Both parts of your driving licence

 

 

 

 

 BOOKING THE DRIVING TEST

Practical driving tests can booked online, by phone or by post.

To book by phone the contact telephone number is - 0300 200 1122.

 

To book by post you will need a form DL26, which can be obtained from any driving test centre.

 

 

The cost of the test is £62.00

 

 

When booking you will need the following :

Your driver number

Your theory certificate number and the date you passed

A valid debit / credit card

 

PLEASE NOTE YOU CANNOT BOOK YOUR DRIVING TEST UNTIL YOU HAVE PASSED YOUR THEORY TEST

 

CANCELLING A TEST

You are required to give a minimum of three clear working days notice to cancel or postpone your test, otherwise you will lose your test fee.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

The DSA are required to make every effort to ensure that all candidates can take the driving test, therefore it is important to discuss your needs when booking your test.

 

THE TEST VEHICLE

The vehicle you intend to use during your test must have a current MOT certificate and be fully covered by insurance for its present use and for you to drive - you will be asked to sign a declaration to confirm this. The vehicle should also display a valid tax disc and L-plates. It must have a properly fitted head restraint and a fully functioning seat belt fitted to the fromt passenger seat, plus an additional interior rear-view mirror for use by the examiner. If you overlook any of the above your test will be cancelled and you will lose your test fee.
